Vintage Uzbek Black Suzani Textile
This large antique Uzbek suzani dates to the 1960s. The black background color with colorful mandala hand embroidery indicates it is likely from Samarkand. Suzani is a traditional craft of Central Asia, embroidered in preparation for a wedding by the women of the bride's family. It would make a beautiful wall hanging, headboard, sofa cover, curtain or bedspread.
This suzani is hand embroidered on cotton, machine stitched down the middle and also has a machine stitched edge. It is faded with age and shows spots of wear including a tear in the edging, see last photo.
