Vintage Brass Shiva Nataraja Statue Lord of Dance
Vintage brass Shiva Nataraja statue. This small statue is one of the finest and most ancient illustrations of Hindu art, presenting Shiva as the lord of dance and dramatic arts, displaying the musical play which is the source of all movement within the universe. It combines Shiva's roles as creator, preserver, and destroyer of the universe and conveys the concept of the never-ending cycle of time. In the flaming circle, Shiva holds the damaru hand drum, which made the first sounds of creation, the agni fire that will destroy the universe, and with his lower right hand, he makes abhayamudra the gesture that allays fear. He tramples on a figure representing that which leads mankind astray. Shiva's front left hand, pointing to his raised left foot, signifies refuge for the troubled soul.
