RESERVED for Nancie // Vintage Eames DAX Fiberglass Shell Armchair for Herman Miller Brown Vinyl and Yellow with Flame Logo

This listing is for ONE chair only. There are currently 3 identical available.

Classic original vintage fiberglass shell armchair designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller. Rare flame logo on the bottom indicates it was produced between 1959-1960. Brown naugahyde vinyl cover over a molded fiberglass shell, two tone with the back painted canary yellow.

When special orders were placed for vinyl covered chairs, the factory would use just any fiberglass base that was an extra, and paint the back to match/contrast with the naugahyde cover. That is the case here as the canary yellow back is painted. The vinyl cover seems to be the type that is a fitted form which clips onto the shell, and it's possible that it's not glued. If you wanted to risk it, you could remove the cover to reveal what should be a pristine fiberglass shell, though the color of the fiberglass is a mystery.

All three chairs have small holes in the vinyl, around the edges. Interior seat areas are in great condition with good stitching. Please see detail photos. Some foot glides are missing.

Charles and Ray Eames were known to patch their damaged upholstered chairs with colored tape. According to the Eames office, "If you have a vintage upholstered Eames Fiberglass Chair with a hole or split seam, and you can repair it by using matching or contrasting electrical tape on Naugahyde or a patch on Hopsak" as "it is congruent with the practices and beliefs of Charles and Ray Eames."
