Vintage 9 Ft Uzbek Suzani Textile Wall Hanging
This large antique Uzbek Suzani dates to the 1950s or earlier. The background color is a deep raspberry or plum, with colorful mandalas in yellow, turquoise, purple and black. Suzani is a traditional craft of Central Asia, hand embroidered in preparation for a wedding by the women of the bride's family. It would make a beautiful wall hanging, headboard, sofa cover, curtain or bedspread.
This suzani is hand embroidered on cotton, then the panels are machine stitched. It has a hand rolled edge, but at least one corner has come unraveled. It is faded with age and shows a few spots of wear including a tear in the edging. Please see photos.
