Ancient Egyptian Mummy Beads | Blue Faience and 22k Gold Necklace
This double strand beaded necklace from ancient Egypt dates likely to the Late Dynastic Period, 404 - 343 BCE. It is made of blue faience beads, which are a porous material made of powdered quartz covered with a blue vitreous isotropic glass coating. Faience was the first mass produced synthetic material to simulate precious stones, and large amounts of faience items were produced for funerary use, to accompany the departed into the afterlife.
The two gold pieces have tested as 22 karat. The clasp is new to allow this necklace to be worn with ease. It measures 15" in length.
This is a true ancient piece acquired at auction from a respected gallery.
